Since 1991, the process of economic liberalization and globalization has had a significant impact on the type of industrial infrastructure required in the State. There is an increasing need for high quality specialized infrastructure focused on specific sectors such as Information Technology, Biotechnology, Financial Services, Food Processing, Leather industries and various other growth engines identified by the State Government.
The requirement of such high quality specialized infrastructure necessitated higher outlay on individual projects together with much higher levels of technical expertise and national and international marketing. Hence, while continuing with its normal activity of creating industrial infrastructure all over the State in order to provide a conducive environment for dispersed industrial growth, the Government and APIIC have embarked a consensus policy on developing specialized infrastructure through partnership with the private sector. It has so far set up 272 industrial estates over an area of 30,000 acres of land.
